Tell us a little bit about yourself
I first began my healthcare career in the NHS working within information management and technology but a desire for a more people-facing role led me to pursue a career in pharmaceutical sales. Over the years I have divided my time equally between periods spent working in the NHS and time spent in ‘pharma’ and this has enabled me to acquire experience in project and people management and in service improvement. My experience of working in both the private and the public sector has given me a strong appreciation of the values and culture of both environments and this has proved to be highly valuable during my career to date.
How have your first 30 days been at Attain?
The past 30 days have been very enjoyable and they have really flown by. I have spent my time shadowing colleagues within the service transformation team and also meeting other Attain colleagues working in the strategy and commercial teams. This has helped me to understand how Attain ensure their approach delivers successful projects that are valued by our clients and the patient populations they serve and it has also enabled me to familiarise myself with the full range of customer solutions Attain is able to offer across a variety of health and care settings.
From the outset, Attain have sought to demonstrate their commitment to listening to me and supporting my development through the objective setting process. As a new starter, I have also felt very reassured that I have made the right choice in joining Attain by the amount of effort that has been taken to support me in getting established; through regular contact with my line manager and my assigned Attain ‘buddy’ and also by involving me in the development of a ‘live bid’ project proposal for a potential client.
What attracted you to Attain?
Their values of Impact, Transparency, Wellbeing, Community, Responsiveness and Rigour are referred to continuously and Attain are very careful to ensure all staff members understand their need to embody these values. The ‘good feeling’ I got about Attain started from my initial contact with people during the recruitment process with everyone I encountered being friendly, informative and very efficient.
In addition, Attain is very much involved in supporting health and social care organisations design and deliver tangible outcomes for customers and the practical implementation of service changes arising from the NHS Five Year Forward View. Since I wanted greater involvement in the emerging new models of care and changing service landscape it felt like the right move to join an organisation like Attain heading in this direction.
What’s the best thing about being employed with Attain?
I have been very impressed by the friendly and positive attitude of everyone I have encountered so far and also by the willingness of others to share work they have done previously or point me in the direction of helpful resources. It’s clear that I have joined a successful and growing organisation and I feel I can positively contribute to its continued growth and success. I am excited at the opportunity I have to work on diverse projects, in a range of client settings, alongside colleagues who have a range of management, commercial and clinical skills and whose experience has been acquired in both health and non-health environments.
What do you hope the future brings for you with Attain?
I hope to enjoy working on a variety of different project assignments (including those related to the new models of care), strengthening my existing knowledge and experience of project and programme management, and continuing to gain in confidence about my ability to take on increasing responsibility for more complex, high priority and high value assignments.
