Michael Bewell on his first 30 days at Attain

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I have over 15 years NHS experience delivering service transformation, developing technology and operational management. I am a father to two, and when not working, I love cycling and outdoor adventure.

How have your first 30 days been at Attain?

My first 30 days have been very welcoming and I’ve had  a variety of work which I have been involved in. My first four days were part of my induction process and I was lucky enough to spend some time with key people at Attain, who have given me an insight into projects they are working on.

I attended the Company Meeting in Manchester which was a really good day and was a chance to meet a lot more colleagues and learn about the business.

I have also had a ‘buddy’ (your own support contact within the company) who I have spoken to weekly, which been incredibly helpful, as have my colleagues in the wider team. I have also been catching up with people in the NHS and expanding my knowledge on all the latest strategies and work that is happening in and around the whole health system.

I was immediately impressed with my new colleagues who bring together an amazing and varied wealth of knowledge, skills and experience. What was most impressive was how they work together and support each other.  At the heart of the business is the operational team who make the administrative processes and support simple, efficient and effective.  After a week, I was given my first project.  Nerves were high, but I have been fantastically looked after by my Delivery Director who has walked with me as I have taken the reins and also the wider service transformation team who have continually checked in with me.  After 30 days, client feedback is positive and it is clear that the work we are doing is going to have a positive and real impact on NHS services.

What attracted you to Attain?

Attain’s values attracted me because they are in line with my personal values and how I aspire to be.  From my first 30 days alone, I can see the time, energy and focus that Attain puts into ensuring it lives by its values – right from the top of the organisation and throughout, which is what really sets the company apart.

What’s the best thing about being employed with Attain?

I am encouraged to use my strengths and involve team members, to bring in their experience. My team are great and I am continually amazed at the skills, experience, knowledge and positive attitude they bring to the table.  The senior team at Attain are incredibly supportive and although the bar is set high, reaching the expected levels is not a solo task.

What do you hope the future brings for you with Attain?

I am currently in the middle of my first project that will have a big impact on patients and a whole health system.  The array of projects that Attain are delivering is diverse and exciting.  I hope to continue working on projects that will support the NHS to better care for us all and develop my skills, experience and confidence to go further and make a lasting impact.
