Michelle Griffin talks about her background and why she joined Attain

#Tell us a little bit about yourself

I joined Attain in September 2016. I am a former clinical doctor, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology. I have worked in the acute provider setting throughout my clinical career, in both secondary and tertiary level hospitals. I have developed a comprehensive and in depth understanding of service provision and design, incorporating clinical and workforce requirements. Recently, I have worked in Public Health England (PHE) following my clinical fellowship in medical leadership and management with the National Medical Director. Whilst at PHE, I was involved in national policy projects, working with the UK National Screening Committee and Screening and Immunisation team, to develop and improve antenatal and neonatal screening programmes. I then led the development and expansion of the National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service as part of the UK Rare Disease Strategy, where we developed the first registration system to report on a national scale on congenital anomalies and rare diseases.

How have your first 30 days been at Attain?

My first month at Attain has been very interesting. The team at Attain are welcoming, knowledgeable and keen to help you settle in. It is a great environment to work in, where people involve you in their work and are keen to hear and incorporate your ideas.

What attracted you to Attain?

The values were the key area that attracted me to Attain. It was clear at every stage in recruitment that these values form the framework of the company, in all that they do and in the way they work. As someone moving from the public sector, where the culture and environment is different to the private sector, the behaviour of the company was critical to me. At the heart of Attain, is the need and desire to help the NHS do better and everyone at Attain signs up to that. This provides an innovative, hard working and problem solving environment which I enjoy working in.

What’s the best thing about being employed with Attain?

The team – it was clear from the outset that the Attain team have great knowledge, expertise and experience, which they are keen to share. This fosters a very open, friendly and helpful working environment where asking questions and querying ideas or approaches is welcomed.

What do you hope the future brings for you with Attain?

The chance to develop myself in this field and combine my clinical knowledge with other skills to deliver the best for clients. Attain has such a broad base of projects and clients, I am very much looking forward to be involved in a number of projects ranging across different areas providing a chance to use my skills but also develop myself further.
