Attain welcomes new staff: November 2013

We have been joined by a considerable number of talented new staff members since the summer. Here we profile just a few of our new team members…

Nicola Parrott

Nicola joined Attain in October 2013 as a Senior Manager in the Service Transformation Team. She brings 10 years experience of health service planning, design, management and improvement in commissioning organisations, acute trusts, KPMG in the UK and Australia, and most recently the Welsh Ambulance Service. Nicola has extensive health sector knowledge as well as experience of Lean/Six Sigma improvement methodologies, complex service planning and redesign, and programme and change management expertise.

Nicola is very happy to be part of a team that is so aligned with her personal values, in particular serving the needs of patients through delivery of service improvements at significant pace. She has always enjoyed putting professional tools and techniques in place to facilitate successful processes that are clinically led at their heart. “Since joining Attain I have been humbled not only by the degree of talent and knowledge within the team, but also the ethical way we go about delivering value to the NHS. People here are not afraid to ask difficult questions and everyone goes out of their way to be welcoming and collaborative on a day-to-day basis.”

Louise Glover

Louise joined Attain in November 2013, bringing more than 30 years experience of leading improvement and transformation within acute and community sector NHS organisations. She is an experienced clinician and programme manager who received Lean training from IBM and holds Prince2 practitioner status.

Louise has facilitated and led many national, regional and local improvement projects, and has developed a number of models to support the delivery of quality and productivity improvements to healthcare services. Most recently Louise led an 18 month transformation programme within a specialist paediatric hospital which delivered a range of improvements to the quality of care, including working with consultant paediatricians in changing their job plans to meet demand for patients on the Emergency Care Pathway.

Louise cites the unique blend of values and professionalism as key factors in her decision to join Attain. “I am passionate about improving healthcare for patients and look forward to the opportunity to be at the forefront of challenges in the new commissioning landscape.”

Fiona Sutcliffe

Fiona joined Attain in October 2013 with over twenty years operational and strategic NHS management experience gained across mental health, community and acute hospital settings. During her career she has undertaken roles at provider and commissioner level, complimented by eight years in the financial services industry.

As the NHS standard contract expert, Fiona developed the national templates for service specifications, quality requirements and the contractual performance levers, as well as the national guidance for the standard contract. She regularly advised both commissioners and providers on contract development and management issues and regularly ran workshops on how to use the contract to secure high quality, cost effective services. Fiona also has a strong track record of service redesign and implementation, transforming bed based services into community services for adults of working age and older adults with mental health issues.

Fiona was attracted to working for Attain by the opportunities both to work for an organisation which so clearly shared NHS values and also to use her skills and experience across such a wide range of different projects. She says “I have been really impressed by the way in which Attain staff truly live by their values, putting the patient at the centre of everything they do.” Fiona is also enjoying working with a diverse and highly skilled team.

Matt Jones

Matt joined the Strategy and Commissioning Development team in September. He is an experienced, health-focused operational research analyst, with extensive experience of modelling, including simulation, forecasting, and statistics. Matt is highly proficient in the use of Excel and a range of other modelling tools such as Simul8 and SPSS.

Recent projects include the modelling of activity and costs of changes to the health system as part of the Healthy Lives Healthy Futures programme of work. This involved coordinating requirements from two CCGs and the acute provider to build consensus on what elements were being modelled and then working in partnership with CCGs modelling teams to build the final model.

His past experience includes work with the NHS, pharmaceutical companies and international development agencies. Most recently, Matt led the Business Intelligence team at Healthcare at Home, the UK’s leading homecare provider. This role required him to use his extensive data collection, analysis and interpretation skills, as well demanding strategic thinking and client management expertise.

Matt gained further health outcomes research and technical modelling skills whilst studying for an MSc in Operational Research; this, combined with his professional experience, give him a wide range of technical tools and approaches to analyse and understand the drivers of health system performance.

Matt is impressed by Attain’s commitment to its values stating: “The company dedicates a lot of time and effort into thinking about and ensuring its values are part of day-to-day life, and it shows. It’s great working with dedicated individuals who all share common goals.”

Rhoda Thomas

Rhoda joined the Strategy and Commissioning Development team in July, bringing a strong blend of NHS and consultancy experience gained within primary and secondary care. She has ten years experience in the healthcare sector having worked as an NHS commissioning manager, an acute trust accountant, and as an NHS performance improvement consultant for a global professional services firm.

As a qualified management accountant with a Masters degree in Human Resource Management, Rhoda has a keen interest in financial governance and operating model optimisation for NHS organisations. She is experienced in organisational design, business case development and managing cost improvement/QIPP programmes having worked on several large scale NHS mergers and financial turnaround programmes in recent years.

Rhoda is technically accomplished and has a keen ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. She brings a diligent and collaborative approach to project delivery.

Rhoda has found joining Attain “refreshing and exciting to be at the forefront of commissioning development. I am very happy to be working with such a capable, friendly and diverse team.”

Charles Kirabo

Charles joined Attain in July with over five years public sector procurement, commissioning and contract management experience, coupled with private sector experience in the medical diagnostics sector.

Charles has a broad understanding of the social care sector and has worked with a multitude of different stakeholders to deliver projects ranging from substance misuse services to home care.

Most recently Charles has been working with Bedfordshire CCG leading on all aspects of their dermatology and ophthalmology procurement projects and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Charles prides himself on delivering procurement projects in a timely manner, and delivering specified objectives with the overarching ambition of putting patients first. Charles says: “Having worked in large multi-national and public sector organisations in the past, I was seduced by the idea of working for an adept and upcoming organisation. I am thrilled to be part of a company that is going places.”
